Who Front Range Songwriters are.

We are lyricists and songwriters in the Colorado Springs area with the mission of encouraging songwriting, improving our craft and sharing our work.

Meet our Coordinators

John Nelson

John had a number of songs on the New Music Weekly Top 40, including “Indigo Blue.” He has produced albums for talented country and blues artists, both in Nashville and in Colorado, and he continues to write and perform.

Vondelle Hebert

Vondelle has released one album and some of her songs found listeners as far away as Australia and Europe. Mapping out a song and going on the treasure hunt for the best way to share it (rewriting) is a grand adventure for her. She has several projects in the works.

Mike Burns

Mike Burns has been actively songwriting since 2001, and a regular in both the Front Range and the NSAI groups. Original songs include “Possum Gal,” “Fire’s Comin’,” “Moon in Your Heart,” and “Dancing Man.” “Go Away” is often a request shouted from the crowd. He is known for being part of the “Silvering Sage” band.

Meet our other Associates

John Swayne

A Nashville songwriter, John’s songs have received recognition by recording artists and by the recording industry with hits including “This One Belongs to Me.” He has taught workshops on the craft of songwriting for over 20 years.

Carmen Anthony Sacco

Carmen is a talented singer and songwriter with a flair for passionate lyrics and rhythmic guitar style. Currently he is in the process of completing his second album project. He is known for co-writing “The Nation’s Prayer” and for leading numerous musical benefit events. Visit his webpage and his SoundCloud or contact him at anthonysacco2015@outlook.com.

Bert Hansel

As a baby, Dad would sing us to sleep with songs by Jimmy Rodgers, George Formby and Harry Champion; so I was destined to be a singer. When I was four years old I was going to marry Vera Lynn, so I was destined to be a singer. At school during music lessons our teacher gave up on 30 rowdy boys, gave us each song book, and played piano for us while we sang along; I was destined to be a singer. As a teenager it was dancing: English folk, International folk and American Square Dancing. I took some courses in calling and joined The Callers Club of Great Britain.

More recently I just sing at parties and with family. I worked for Mudcat.org, and did 80 sessions as a Co-Host of Mudcat Radio, an early online streaming show. I started writing songs in the late Eighties and have been showing up at odd open mics since then.

Howard Dahlberg

I have loved music since childhood and have always wanted to entertain with music. Now that I am retired I am stepping out: playing guitar in a trio, "The Gus Meza Band" and participating in "The Front Range Songwriters Workshop". I hope I will learn to write songs that people will love and remember.

In Memoriam

Rob Jones

Our work is dedicated in part to one of our late coordinators, who’s passion sparked this group. He was a songwriter and a coordinator for the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) for Colorado Springs. His songs reflected old and new country with a Jimmy Buffet flair.
